Research & Scholarly Contributions
Co-Author, Providing Care to an Underserved Older Adult Community Utilizing an Interprofessional Education and Practice Opportunity
Manuscript submitted to Journal of Interprofessional Care (December 15, 2025)
Conducted mixed-methods research evaluating the impact of student-led interprofessional education (IPE) clinics—integrating dentistry, dental hygiene, and pharmacy disciplines—on collaborative competencies among students and health outcomes for low-income older adults residing in federally subsidized housing in Boston, MA. The research was supported by a grant from The Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS).
- Performed statistical analysis of quantitative data, including paired t-tests on pre- and post-Interprofessional Collaborative Competency Attainment Survey (ICCAS) responses across six domains (communication, collaboration, roles/responsibilities, patient/family-centered approach, team functioning, and conflict management/resolution), demonstrating statistically significant improvements in student competencies among over 60 participants across multiple semesters.
- Conducted qualitative thematic analysis of open-ended survey responses from students and older adult patients, identifying key themes including interprofessional collaboration, communication and language barriers, novel patient care insights, cultural considerations, and workflow/time management; contributed to word frequency analysis for data visualization.
- Collaborated with an interdisciplinary faculty team from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) and Harvard School of Dental Medicine to analyze outcomes from nine community-based clinic sessions serving an underserved geriatric population.
Co-Author, Evaluating Interprofessional Competence via Team Observed Structured Clinical Encounters and Standardized Patients
Manuscript completed and in preparation for submission in 2025
Quantitative research study assessing interprofessional competence among dental hygiene, nursing, pharmacy, and physician assistant students using Team Observed Structured Clinical Encounters (TOSCEs) and standardized patients.
- Performed data curation, formal analysis, validation, and software support, including descriptive statistics, ANOVA comparisons of facilitator-evaluated ICAR scores across disciplines using JASP, and dependent t-tests of pre/post student self-reported ICCAS competence using SPSS—demonstrating significant improvements in perceived interprofessional skills overall and within each discipline.
